This book was amazing. At first, it was a little tedious to read but became incredible. Although this isn't exactly modern, the events and emotions portrayed are still fantastic. I can see why it's been required for middle school classes. I'll never forget this book from my seventh grade year.

The Outsiders, In my opinion is probably the best required reading in school, at least it was required for me to read it. I think when I was told that I would have to read the book I was bumbed out, and I actualy put it off till the last minute as usual, then I had two days to read it and sat down and read the whole thing.
I think most teenagers can relate to this sort of book, because its about friendships and love, and going for what you want dispite what everyone might think of you. My teachers where a bit surprised to see that I had written a full final report on the book when I had gotten zero marks on the chapter reviews.
I suggest that every teenager read this book, and if it is not a required reading every ware I think it should be. |

I read "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton in my 8th grade English class, and I thought it was the best book we read all year. I liked how it went from conflict to comflict, then it went to heart-warming at the end.
This book is real, about the "Socs" and the "Greasers," and how they interact. This was written by Hinton at a very young age (about 15, I think) and it shows the cliques of other schools. Others wouldn't get physically violent, but it's a real story to real teenagers, even though times have changed. This story is a classic. |

The Outsiders is a great book! The frist time I read this book I read it in English class. I never liked to read but when I read this book I really liked it. The frist time I read it I did not understand it much. But after I saw the movie(long version) I understood it more. I got my own copy of the book and read it when I just need to think things over. If you have not read this book you should because this book is a great book of friendship and how willing friends are to protect you when things are rough. Like Johnny, he had things rough but his friends were always there for him when thing were rough for him. I love this book! I can relate to somethings in the book. I can relate to Ponyboy and how he haves a brother that really cares but does not always show it(Darry). Then there is Johnny who gets hit by his old man and never been out of town his whole life. Johnny needed his friends without his friends he would have ran away a hundered times. This book is a wounderful book and you should read it. When you read it you will understand why I would recamed this book to any teen who have been though lots and neededs a like advice or had a couple bumpes in the road. Once you read it you will love it!

This is a classic! It is a classic that I can read over and over again. In this book I learned about gangs more and conflcits that teens had back in the grease days. This book may have conflicts in it like any other book but it has some romance in it as well. If you have yet to read this book read it.

I'm sure you've all heard the saying, "Let's do it for Johnny" or "Stay gold Ponyboy" be it from a band you listen to or a T.V show you watch. These sayings come from the book "The Outsiders", a touching story about a town divided into two parts, the Greasers and Socs. Greasers were the kids on the wrong side of the tracks, the juvinilles, they were poor and stole and got into fights. They wore leather jackets and had greased-back hair. The Socs were the rich kids who, from the Greaser's point of view, had it all. They were rich and had nice clothes and cars. Each group sterotyped each-other, eventually causing hatred between them. Neither knew of the problems the other had. The groups would occsionally have fights, but one night someone took things too far. This book teaches the lesson that you can't judge someone until you've walked in their shoes, and seen the world through their eyes, that at the end of the day, we're all one race: human.

OMG!!! This book is awesome. I read it a few years ago, and I still read it like at least once a month. I feel that I could really understand Ponyboy Curtis. His life was really screwed up, and I can really relate to that. I really actually liked the rumbling and stuff. The describing they did in this book was incredible!!! I had a picture of everything and had it clearly. This is my favorite book on the planet, and has been for a while. I think it was really sweet how Sodapop and Ponyboy were so close. Darry was supposed to be hard and cold, but you could tell he really cared about Ponyboy. The book was a true classic in my eyes!!!

I never thought that a book we read in school would bring up a new obsession for me, but it did. I guess it got more intense when I watched the movie, since there are a ton of "hunks" from the '80s in it. I remember how I began to like it during the first chapter, even. And I'm one of those people who hates to read, but this is one good book I'd pick up and read a million times, for sure. I like most of the characters. Especially Ponyboy and Two-Bit. Dallas is cool also. So the movie isn't too close to the book, but comparing and contrasting, they do get the lines and most of the scenes in pretty well.

We read this in school I liked it then and I still do, I think it actually captured the imagination of our class [which was hard to do] - it had a little bit of everything. I thought that it portrayed the real life struggles fro gangs, and it was very well thought out when written, using gang names and actually make you feel as if you were part of the book instead of just reading it.

The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton is an excellent book. The Outsiders has a great plot. It is about the socs (pronounced soshas; short for the word social) and the greasers fighting. A greaser murders a soca and they go into hiding. I won't give away anymore of the story though. I hate reading books because I can never get into a book. I had to read The Outsiders for my English class two years ago, when I was in seventh grade and I absolutly loved the book. I have read it at least time times since I first read in for our reports! I got into this book right away when i first started to read it. It doesn't use vulgar language either. it is deffinately one of my favorite books. Read it!
